The great thing about evernote is that they have a client for practically every platform out there, mac, windows, ios, and android. I think the question will be answered by what devices do you need to work from. I'd pay $100 for a set of apps that worked like Evernote, if it meant I knew the service wouldn't be shut down, and if I could control the hosting. Right now I'm using a hodge podge of text editors that is really inefficient and manually pasting text into a centralized document every few days.įrom what I understand, this is exactly what Evernote will do, except I don't trust them, and secondarily, I don't want to pay $45 per year and give up long-term control.

I'd like to be able to access and work on them while offline if no internet is available, and have it re-sync when internet comes back. I want to save text (but also be able to embed/attach pictures) and be able to access and work on them from any platform (iPad, android phone/pad, mac laptop). If Google is doing it, I'm sure everyone is.Įssentially what I'd like to do is have something like Microsoft OneNote that works on iOS, android, and OS X. This means that while your content may be "private" there is a ad profile based on the content and the content can be reverse engineered on a high-level. I'm nearly certain Google is scanning for keywords within your google docs for ad purposes. The primary reason is that I simply don't trust evernote or any of these other cloud hosting companies. Ideally I'd like to host the files on my own home server using my home internet connection (not sure if I have a static IP with my new ISP but if necessary I'll pay to get one). I haven't used evernote personally but from what I understand the functionality is exactly what I want.
